New Money Vibes in the Westside Neighborhood Look - West Village & Meatpacking District

Located in the southwest corner of Manhattan, the West Village is one of NYC’s oldest and most charming neighborhoods. Once a quiet countryside village in the 18th century, it still retains its cozy European vibes and irregular street layout—unlike the rest of Manhattan.

In the 19th century, it became a hub for immigrants, bohemians, and artists. By the 20th century, it transformed into an iconic space for counterculture and LGBTQ+ rights. The historic 1969 Stonewall uprising happened here, and legends like Bob Dylan, Allen Ginsberg, and Jackson Pollock called this place home.

Who Lives in the West Side Now?
Today, the West Side is known for its wealth, history, and artistic flair—but gentrification has made it one of the most expensive neighborhoods in NYC.

  • Affluent professionals like actors, designers, tech & finance execs

  • Celebs like Bad Bunny, Joe Jonas, Dakota Johnson, Taylor Swift, SJP & Matthew Broderick

  • Long-time locals who’ve lived here since before it became trendy

  • Young, creative types with money to spare—fashion designers, writers, founders, etc.

  • Long-standing members of the LGBTQ+ community keeping the neighborhood’s legacy alive

Surrounded by top art schools like SVA, FIT, Parsons, and more near 22nd St
West Side Fashion = “New Money”
It’s a layered style story that defies one label. Think elegant classics mixed with bold, artsy streetwear. If the Upper East Side (Gossip Girl) is peak “old money,” the West Side is where new money thrives—wealthy but expressive. Expect standout colors, daring prints, and frequent nods to LGBTQ+ pride in fashion.
